Hey! What’s up? It’s me. Lisa. I’m heeere! Too informal? Ok let’s bond first.

I’m Lisa Concepcion and if you see me out and about in Miami please come up and say hi. I’ll want to take a picture with you to upload to this blog and facebook and twitter so be warned. I love meeting new people, being social, having fun and offering my snarky NY take on all things I observe while living in Miami. I decided to start this blog because too many people for too long have told me how I should have my own TV show, book, brand…something!! “Lisa you need to be out there, doing something… BIG!” I AGREE 100,000,000%. To learn about Lisa Takes Miami the blog (LisaTakesMiami) I share some things about me.

I heart NY but I also heart strolling up Lincoln Road

I studied communications at Rutgers University which led to a career in Public Relations. I worked and played in New York City for 39 years of my life. If New York was an average of 83 degrees and sunny 80% of the year, and the Hudson River was a beach with white sand and palm trees, this blog would not be happening and I’d probably be stuck in the Lincoln Tunnel on my way to or from work at some PR agency.  So I simply traded the Lincoln Tunnel in for Lincoln Road and found it just felt right.

Professionally I promote brands and get people psyched about different products, places or services. However, now I get to talk about different brands in my own unique style which enables me promote myself. I’ll be honest. I’m hoping to gain the attention of the right someone who can help me become a brand. I’m all about the book deals, endorsement deals, the opportunity to have my own “Doc-u-ality” series, my own line of bikinis, beach cruiser bicycles, comfortable yet chic travel wear, sunglasses, and eventually hope to “take on” many many more cities. Travel Channel, Nat Geo, Discovery, BRAVO are you out there? Heloooo? This little girlie can’t be kept in a cage. People have tried. I break out. The world is there for all of us and I want to go explore!

I have opinions, lots of them and I tend to say what many think but hold back from saying. Let me reach into your mind and mouth and be the one to pull that right outta there for ya. This is my gift to the world. Oprah and Yehuda Berg say to find your gift and then GIVE it. Then, figure out a way to get paid for it. It is our purpose while here in this life to find our true calling. So I offer the gift of entertainment, of sharing what’s good, where to go, what to see, where to eat, what to buy so hopefully I save people some precious time and give them a laugh. I also know a thing or fifty about relationships and as I celebrate the love I’ve had, have currently and the love that awaits me, I offer some fun musings on that topic as well. I wanted to offer topics that reach beyond Miami to show others out there that we are all connected even if that means connected by dysfunction. I share the gift of levity and humor to remind people it is absolutely okay to be human.

To get me and my flavor, which may be a bit too strong for some, you have to get where I came from. It’s simple.

This particular geographical sketch adds up to a woman who has a zero tolerance for BS. I like efficiency. I like people who move quickly and make smart decisions and own them. I also like down to earth no BS people who do what they say they will do and are respectful of time. A person can be good, kind and compassionate yet firm, deliberate and honest. When I’m pissed you’ll know it. When I laugh, I laugh big. You always know where you stand with me and will see this throughout my blog.

On September 27th 2010, I packed up a Penske truck which my dad, Lou Concepcion drove behind me and my beloved dog FOOie (2000-2011 RIP) and I made my way down through torrential rains white knuckling it down I-95. I was determined to live where I felt right. I knew I wanted a place that could be considered New York’s 6th Borough. I wanted culture, nightlife, great food, shopping but with palm trees and a beach a bike ride away. I made my way to Miami and cried as I crossed over the Julia Tuttle Causeway. “Welcome to Miami” the sign said like a warm welcome from that crazy Tia who cooks great and lets you bitch to her about your mother knowing she will never tell. In typical NY form, I found my way. Within 2 weeks of my arrival I was in a bikini, champagne in hand partying it up on the Columbus Day Regatta. I went to all the clubs, stayed out too late, woke up too late and pretty much enjoyed a two month mid-life, well needed break. I worked as an independent contractor for two PR Firms here in Miami. I was grateful for both opportunities.

For me Miami is that super hot guy you fall for, HARD. He brings so much to the table but would be perfect if only he changed in a few teeny little areas. I’ve set out to change men in the past. It’s a waste of time. Changing a city would be even more of an undertaking so instead, I accept Miami for all it is and give it a big warm hug every time I stand on my terrace and hear yet another car accident on the street below.

You won’t see some wannabe journalist trying to be all uppity with AP Style sentence structure and grammar. Screw that. I don’t want my followers to ever have to leave my page to google the definition of a word. The tone here is blunt and smart without the unnecessary snobbery. If you meet me in person I will sound exactly how I sound on this blog New York accent and all. Someone who followed me on facebook for a year before meeting me in person paid me the nicest compliment. “Lisa, when I read what you write, I hear you in my head and now meeting you in person, you are exactly what I thought you would be like.” This absolutely warmed my heart. I can get a client on the Today Show til the cows come home but sorry, that doesn’t really do it for me the way this simple compliment did.

I’m not a medical professional by any means so all I can do is offer advice based on experience and work I do on  myself. I am very spiritual and believe that we are all on a life’s journey to find our purpose. I believe in what was so eloquently explained in the book and movie Eat Pray Love, the theory of quest physics.

My Beloved FOOie (2000-2011) strolls the bay side of South Beach

“…I’ve come to believe that there exists in the universe something I call “The Physics of The Quest” – a force of nature governed by laws as real as the laws gravity or momentum. And the rule of Quest Physics maybe goes like this: “If you are brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting (which can be anything from your house to your bitter old resentments) and set out on a truth-seeking journey (either externally or internally), and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue, and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher, and if you are prepared – most of all – to face (and forgive) some very difficult realities about yourself….then truth will not be withheld from you.” Or so I’ve come to believe.”

So with that I begin yet another part of my journey and I thank you all for being a part of it as teachers offering clues that help me find my way.

Hugs,
Lisa
